July 2011
When I wrote last month’s blog I referred to Ginger our sow at Kilnford and how she liked her wallow. During the last few days the weather has been really hot and she has spent most of the day lying in the water. Those of you who have been visiting her will know she delivered 10 lovely piglets on the 2nd of June and I attach a photo of the event. You will notice that Ginger Junior who was the last to be born still has some afterbirth over his back but he is strong and is making sure he doesn’t get left out as he pushes in to the milk bar. You will be amazed at how fast they have grown so if you haven’t seen them then maybe try and make a visit soon. Ginger has been whispering in my ear that she would like to go back to our pig farm soon to spend some time with her boyfriend. Also ten large pigs are getting a bit sore on her and now that they are eating dry food it won’t be long before they can fend for themselves. We are hoping to leave some of them at Kilnford so that you can watch their progress.
I am looking forward to getting the Nature Trail opened soon and then you will be able to keep up with the progress of the newborn Beltie calf I showed you on last month’s blog. You will also be surprised how fast he is growing. I am seeing Kilnford as a sort of mini version of our working farm two miles away so that customers can get a flavour of what it is all about.
I hope you enjoy it
