As our regular customers know, we are passionate about local produce here at Kilnford. We put great effort into sourcing the highest quality local produce for our customers. But why is it so important to shop local? We have listed the five main reasons we promote local shopping.
#1 You deserve the personal touch.
We often get lots of positive feedback from our lovely customers and one of the things most frequently commented on is the personal touch offered here at Kilnford. Some customers are looking for that perfect gift in our craft shop or some can’t quite decide what to have for dinner, our staff are always on hand to give out help and advice. Our deli supervisor Maxine keeps dozens of our customers happy every day with her expert knowledge and advice by suggesting delicious offerings from our wide cheese selection.
#2 Reduce carbon footprint
As a business we have a responsibility to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible but as a customer it’s possible to have an active role in sustaining a greener, cleaner future by reducing your food miles.
We stock a variety of local preserves including ‘By Heck’ Jam which offers a wide range of both traditional and unusual jams, jellies and chutneys all made with local produce when available.
#3 Give something back to the community
Not only by shopping locally are you contributing double the money back into the economy in comparison to shopping in a major supermarket but many of our local suppliers give back to the community in more ways than one.
We are proud to stock the award winning Loch Arthur Criffel Cheese not only because of its long list of accolades and awards and downright creamy deliciousness but also because Loch Arthur give a tremendous amount back to the community. Loch Arthur is a social enterprise, creating employment opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities at their Camphill Community. We think it’s comforting to know that by buying their local delicacies you are also enriching the lives of others.
#4 Try something different
We personally think that our local suppliers provide the most unusual and quirky products. Our customers obviously think so too as ‘Uncle Roys Comestible Concoctions’ have been flying off the shelves this week. Anyone for Mustardy Mango Sauce? Or why not try a little edible lavender florets with your next batch of home baking?
It’s not surprising that the Rabbie’s Burnie Mustard and Haggis Sauce have both gone down well with locals. Have you tried any of ‘Uncle Roys Comestible Concoctions’
#5 Know where your food is coming from
Do you know exactly where the food you are buying comes from? Well here at Kilnford we can confidently tell you that our meat comes directly from our farm to your fork, no tampering, nothing added just our home reared high quality produce,(with the exception of a few speciality meats that we source from equally as trustworthy sources and of course local whenever possible).
Why not pop in and take advantage of our current ‘3 for £10’ offer so you can be confident that you know exactly where your meat has come from?
What are your favourite local products? Are there any other local products you would like to see on our shelves?
